HT Design Waveland Relax Brings Lay-Flat Comfort, Heat and Triple-Power Control to Home Theater Seating
Home theater seating has changed considerably from the basic power recliners that dominated the market years ago. Customers increasingly want the comfort and adjustability of a premium living-room recliner while still getting the features, dimensions and row configurations required for a dedicated theater.
That is exactly what we set out to accomplish with the new HT Design Waveland Relax.
The Waveland Relax builds on our existing Waveland platform with a deeper lay-flat zero-recline position, heated seating, independent power recline, power headrest and power lumbar adjustment, memory positioning and customizable LED lighting.
It is designed for people who want to watch a two-hour movie, binge a series, play games or simply relax without feeling like they are sitting in a conventional theater chair.
A Much Deeper Reclining Position
One of the biggest differences between the Waveland Relax and a traditional home theater recliner is how far back the chair can go.
Most theater seating is designed primarily around efficient room layouts and wall-hugging recline. That works well when maximizing the number of seats in a room is the priority, but it limits how far back the chair can actually recline.
The Waveland Relax uses an extended zero-recline mechanism that allows the seat to reach a substantially flatter lounging position.
The tradeoff is straightforward: you need a little more room behind the chair. We recommend approximately 8.25 inches of wall clearance.
For customers who value deeper relaxation, we think that is space well spent.

Triple-Power Adjustment Where Your Hand Naturally Goes
The Waveland Relax has three independently powered comfort adjustments:
- Power recline
- Power headrest
- Power lumbar
All three are controlled directly from the arm-mounted cupholder controls.
We prefer this location because your hand naturally reaches toward the cupholder area while seated. You do not have to reach down along the side of the chair or feel around for controls in a dark theater.
The power headrest becomes particularly useful as the chair reclines farther. Instead of forcing your neck forward to see the screen, you can independently raise the headrest until you find the right viewing angle.
Power lumbar allows the same type of adjustment for the lower back.
There is also a memory function for saving a preferred seating position and a home button that returns the chair to its upright position.
Heat Is Controlled Separately
The Waveland Relax adds heat through the seat and lumbar area.
Unlike the three power functions, the heat control is located separately on the inside of the arm.
We deliberately keep this separate from the recline, headrest and lumbar controls. The primary positioning controls remain concentrated in the cupholder, while heat can be turned on or adjusted independently.
That also keeps the operating layout straightforward even though the chair has considerably more functionality than a standard recliner.
Full-Length Contoured Leg Support
The recline mechanism is only part of what makes a chair comfortable.
Waveland Relax uses full-length contoured leg channels extending from the seat through the chaise and footrest.
Instead of sitting on a supportive seat and then transitioning onto a relatively flat footrest, the contour continues beneath the thighs, lower legs and feet.
This creates more of a continuous lounging surface when the seat is fully reclined.
Combined with the deeper zero-recline position, it gives the Waveland Relax a noticeably different feel from a conventional theater recliner.
Seven-Color LED Lighting
Home theater lighting does not have to mean bright blue LEDs everywhere.
The Waveland Relax includes seven-color LED cupholder and base lighting, allowing the lighting to better coordinate with the room.
There are also three brightness levels, and the lighting can be turned completely off.
That last part matters.
Accent lighting can look great when people enter the theater, but once the movie begins, many viewers want the room as dark as possible. The lighting system gives you both options.
The cupholder area also includes USB-C charging for compatible phones and devices.
Built Like HT Design Seating
Adding features is easy. Building them into a chair without sacrificing the underlying seating construction is more important.
The Waveland Relax includes many of the same components and construction methods we use throughout the HT Design line, including:
- HT Design Top Grain Leather 12000
- Memory-foam top layer
- High-density cushioning
- Pocketed spring coils
- Kiln-dried hardwood framing
- Leggett & Platt reclining hardware
- German-engineered Okin power actuators
The chair also includes hidden in-arm storage and walnut tray tables, two features that remain particularly useful in dedicated home theaters.

Still Designed for Real Home Theater Rooms
A highly adjustable recliner is not very useful to us if it cannot also work in an actual theater layout.
The Waveland Relax can be ordered in straight rows, loveseat configurations, sofa-style layouts and larger multi-seat arrangements.
Individual seats provide a 23.75-inch seating width and a 44-inch back height. Fully reclined depth is approximately 70 inches.
The backs are removable, reducing the required delivery clearance to approximately 26 inches, which makes getting the chairs through residential doors and into basement or upstairs theaters considerably easier.
Optional accessories include tablet holders, wine glass holders, a portable loveseat armrest, headrest pillow, seat riser and ButtKicker mounting accessories.
Why We Developed the Waveland Relax
There are plenty of recliners with long lists of features.
Our goal was not simply to add more buttons.
The Waveland Relax is about combining features that actually change how the chair feels and functions: a deeper reclining range, adjustable head and lumbar support, heat, memory positioning, full-length leg support and controls positioned where they are easy to use.
At the same time, it remains a true home theater seating platform that can be configured into rows and planned around screen position, room width and multi-row layouts.
For customers who want something closer to a luxury lounger without giving up the advantages of dedicated theater seating, the Waveland Relax fills that gap.
