Home theater retailer shifts sourcing to Cambodia, noting tariffs and potential Palliser delays

HT Market was recently featured in Furniture Today, one of the furniture industry’s leading trade publications. The independently written article examines how tariffs, factory changes and shifting supply chains are affecting home theater seating and the broader furniture industry.

The article includes comments from HT Market founder Alan Hutchinson about the transition of HT Design home theater seating production to a newly constructed facility in Cambodia operated by HT Market’s long-time manufacturing partner.

A Manufacturing Transition Driven by Industry Change

HT Market did not build or invest directly in the Cambodia factory. The new facility was developed by our long-time manufacturing partner in China as an additional production option outside China.

The move reflects major changes taking place throughout the furniture industry. Tariffs have altered the economics of manufacturing, while companies must also account for sourcing, ocean freight, component availability, factory capacity and longer transportation timelines.

Premium home theater seating relies on specialized components such as reclining mechanisms, motors, actuators, electronics, hardware and upholstery materials. Many of these components still move through established suppliers across Asia before final assembly in Cambodia.

Rebuilding a Supply Chain Takes Time

Moving production is not simply a matter of opening a factory. It requires rebuilding a supply chain that took decades to optimize.

Containers leaving Cambodia often travel by feeder vessel before connecting with larger trans-Pacific ships at regional ports. This can create longer shipping cycles than traditional routes from China and requires more careful inventory planning, purchasing and warehouse coordination.

“The headlines usually focus on tariff percentages. What many people do not see is the enormous amount of work required to redesign supply chains that took decades to optimize.”

Palliser and MotoMotion Developments

The Furniture Today article also discusses potential delays and production changes involving Palliser Furniture following its acquisition by MotoMotion.

HT Market has been a Palliser retailer for more than 22 years. As Palliser and MotoMotion review production schedules, materials and factory capacity, some existing orders may face delays, changes or cancellation.
