HT Design Waveland XL: Big & Tall Home Theater Seating Without Compromise

Finding a home theater seat with plenty of features is easy. Finding one that is genuinely comfortable for a bigger or taller person is much harder.

That is exactly why we developed the HT Design Waveland XL Big & Tall Home Theater Seating.

The Waveland XL takes the comfort and features of our popular Waveland design and scales them up with a wider seating area, taller back and increased weight capacity. The result is a premium theater recliner designed for people who simply need more room.

A True Big & Tall Theater Seat

The biggest difference between the standard Waveland and the Waveland XL is fit.

The Waveland XL features a generous 26.75-inch seat width and a 47-inch back height, providing considerably more room through the hips, shoulders and upper body. Each seat is rated for up to 425 pounds.

For comparison, the standard Waveland has a 23.75-inch seat width and a 44-inch back. That extra three inches of seating width makes a noticeable difference for larger users or anyone who simply prefers a roomier chair.

The Waveland XL also features a 23-inch seat depth and a longer, fully padded chaise-style footrest for comfortable head-to-toe support.

Triple-Power Comfort

A premium theater chair needs to do more than recline.

The Waveland XL gives you independent control over three powered functions:

Power Recline lets you position the chair anywhere from upright to fully reclined.

Power Headrest allows you to raise your head and maintain a comfortable viewing angle even when the chair is reclined.

Power Lumbar lets you adjust lower-back support independently.

Instead of being locked into one seating position, each person can fine-tune the chair around his or her own body and preferred viewing position.

Memory Position and One-Touch Home

Once you find the position you like, the Waveland XL can remember it.

The integrated memory control stores your preferred recline, headrest and lumbar position so you can return to it without adjusting everything again.

When the movie is over, press the Home button and the powered seat returns to its upright position.

These controls are located around the top-mounted cupholder area where they are easy to see and reach, even in a dark theater.

7-Color LED Lighting You Can Actually Control

Lighting is part of the home theater experience, but sometimes you want accent lighting and sometimes you want complete darkness.

The Waveland XL includes 7-color LED lighting in both the cupholders and along the base of the seating.

You can select your lighting color, adjust the brightness through three dimming levels, or turn the LEDs completely off when the movie starts.

That last feature matters. Theater lighting should enhance the room, not distract from the screen.

Contoured Seating from Seat to Footrest

The Waveland XL uses full-length padded channels that continue from the seating surface through the chaise and footrest.

Instead of transitioning into a flat footrest, the contoured channels continue beneath your thighs, legs and feet.

The result is more of a bucket-seat feel that cradles the body throughout the entire reclined seating surface.

A memory-foam comfort layer, high-density cushioning and pocketed spring coils underneath provide a combination of softness and underlying support.

Premium Top Grain Leather

The Waveland XL is upholstered in our HT Design Top Grain Leather 12000, produced from U.S.-sourced bovine hides.

The approximately 1.2 mm leather has a smooth, soft feel while being engineered for the repeated flexing, rubbing and everyday use expected from home theater seating.

For a chair this large, upholstery quality matters. A big seating surface puts more leather, foam and structural material into constant use, so durability is just as important as initial comfort.

Built Differently on the Inside

Many theater seats look similar from the outside. The bigger differences are usually underneath the leather.

The Waveland XL uses:

  • Kiln-dried hardwood framing
  • High-density foam cushioning
  • Pocketed spring coil seating
  • Memory-foam comfort layer
  • Leggett & Platt reclining mechanisms
  • German-engineered Okin power actuators

These components create the structural foundation beneath the upholstery and are a major part of how the chair feels and performs over time.

Storage Arms and Included Walnut Tray Tables

Each Waveland XL includes hidden storage inside the arms, giving you a convenient place for remotes, game controllers and other theater accessories.

Walnut tray tables are also included and mount directly into the seating arms.

That gives you a sturdy surface for food, drinks, a tablet or other items without adding another table to the room.

USB-C Charging Built In

The cupholder control area also includes USB-C charging for compatible phones, tablets and other devices.

Because the connection is located on top of the arm, you do not have to reach underneath or between the seats to plug something in.

Designed for Straight Theater Rows

Because of its larger dimensions, the Waveland XL is designed specifically for straight-row configurations.

That makes it ideal for dedicated theaters where maximum seating comfort is more important than squeezing as many chairs as possible into a curved row.

Typical straight-row widths include:

  • Row of 2: 76 inches
  • Row of 3: 110.25 inches
  • Row of 4: 144.5 inches
  • Row of 5: 178.75 inches

Loveseat and couch-style configurations are also available for certain row sizes.

It Doesn’t Need a Huge Amount of Space Behind It

Despite being a larger chair, the Waveland XL uses a wall-hugging reclining design.

It requires approximately 8 inches behind the chair to fully recline.

The overall depth is approximately 74 inches when completely reclined.

That can make a significant difference when planning risers and multiple rows in a dedicated theater.

Easier to Get Through the Door Than You Might Think

Large theater seats can look intimidating when it comes time for delivery.

The Waveland XL has a removable back, reducing the approximate delivery clearance requirement to about 26 inches.

Since a typical residential doorway is around 32 inches wide, the seating can usually be moved into theater rooms much more easily than its assembled size would suggest.

Each seat is packaged individually and the back is attached during final setup.

Waveland or Waveland XL?

The choice really comes down to fit.

Choose the standard Waveland when you want premium theater seating with a 23.75-inch seat width, 44-inch back and the ability to build both straight and curved rows.

Choose the Waveland XL when you want substantially more room, including a 26.75-inch seat width, 47-inch back and 425-pound capacity.

Both share the same basic premium comfort philosophy, but the XL is purpose-built for people who need or prefer the additional space.

Big & Tall Seating Should Still Feel Like Premium Theater Seating

Big-and-tall furniture is sometimes treated as a specialty product where size becomes the main feature and everything else takes a back seat.

We took the opposite approach with the Waveland XL.

It has the larger dimensions a big-and-tall user needs, but it still includes the features we expect from premium modern home theater seating: power headrest, power lumbar, memory positioning, USB-C charging, adjustable LED lighting, in-arm storage, tray tables, premium leather and quality reclining components.

If you’ve struggled to find theater seating that gives you enough room without sacrificing features, the HT Design Waveland XL was designed specifically to solve that problem.
