Dolby Atmos Deserves the HT Design Surround Home Theater Seats

HT Design Surround Home Theater Seating: Built for Dolby Atmos Rooms

A great Dolby Atmos home theater is about more than speakers. The seating position matters too. Your speakers can be perfectly placed, but if a tall theater seat puts a large upholstered surface directly behind your ears, it can interfere with the open sound field you’re trying to create.

That is one of the key ideas behind the HT Design Surround Home Theater Seating.

A Low-Back Theater Seat Designed With Sound in Mind

Most home theater recliners use a tall back that extends behind the listener’s head. That’s comfortable, but in a serious surround-sound room it also places a large upholstered surface immediately behind your ears.

The Surround takes a different approach.

With the power headrest lowered, the back height is only 34.75 inches from the floor. This lower-back design helps keep the area around the listener’s head more open for surround, rear-surround and overhead sound.

When you want additional head and neck support, simply raise the power headrest. The overall back height increases to 42.25 inches.

That gives you the flexibility to choose between a lower listening position and additional head support without changing seats.

Why the Surround Design Makes Sense for Dolby Atmos

Dolby Atmos systems are designed to create a three-dimensional sound field around the listener. Depending on the system, sound may be coming from speakers beside you, behind you and above you.

The Surround’s low-back home theater seating design is particularly useful in rooms where you want to minimize the amount of seat material immediately behind the listener’s head.

This can be especially useful with:

  • Side surround speakers
  • Rear surround speakers
  • In-ceiling Dolby Atmos speakers
  • Height speakers
  • Multi-row dedicated theaters

Instead of surrounding your ears with a large seat back, the Surround is designed to keep the sound field more open. Its motorized headrest gives you the ability to keep the seat low when you want maximum openness around the listening position and raise it when you want additional head and neck support.

Power Headrest Lets You Choose Your Listening Angle

The power headrest is an important part of the concept because a permanently low-back seat wouldn’t be ideal for everyone.

Lower the headrest when you want the seat back as low as possible during critical listening. Raise it when you want more head and neck support while reclining.

Combined with power recline and power adjustable mechanical lumbar, you can independently adjust the seating position to find a comfortable viewing angle.

Built for Dedicated Home Theaters

The Surround isn’t simply a low-back recliner. It’s a premium home theater seat designed around the features enthusiasts expect.

Top Grain Leather 12000 provides a premium seating surface, while pocketed seat coils, high-density foam and kiln-dried hardwood framing provide the structural foundation underneath the seat.

Three-way power comfort includes power recline, power headrest and power adjustable mechanical lumbar, allowing each viewer to fine-tune the seating position.

The Surround also includes 7-color LED cupholders and base lighting, in-arm storage and black gloss tray tables, giving it the convenience features expected from a dedicated home theater recliner.

A Space-Efficient Design

The Surround also works well when theater space is limited.

It requires only 1 inch of clearance behind the chair and measures approximately 64.5 inches deep when fully reclined. The seating area is a generous 23.5 inches wide.

Multiple straight and curved configurations are available, including rows of two, three, four, five and six, along with loveseat, couch and other multi-seat arrangements.

That makes the Surround suitable for everything from a smaller media room to a multi-row dedicated Dolby Atmos theater.

The Seat Should Be Part of the Audio Plan

Home theater seating is usually selected based on comfort, appearance and room dimensions. In a high-performance theater, however, it makes sense to consider how the seat interacts with the audio system as well.

That’s where the HT Design Surround is different.

Its low-back design combined with an adjustable power headrest gives home theater owners the ability to keep the area around their ears more open while still having the comfort and adjustability of a full-featured power recliner.

For a room built around Dolby Atmos, DTS:X or another immersive surround format, that’s a seating design worth considering.
